Havasupai Falls

I just got back from an amazing (and exhausting) trip to Havasupai Falls. Outside of a few photos I had seen I knew very little about the falls or the hike prior to the trip. Some friends and I started the ten mile trek early Friday morning after getting only an hour of sleep. The sun was just peaking over the canyon as we started making our way down the steep switchbacks. With packs the decent can be testing but isn’t overly difficult. It is one of those hikes where you are thinking “this isn’t bad” for the first six miles or so, but by the time you reach the 9 mile marker your feet are so tired your seriously considering rolling the rest of the way. Yet, like many things in life the treasure of this hike comes at the end of the trial (and trail), and that treasure is the beautiful falls. But really, beautiful is an understatement. Words and photo’s can’t begin to convey the breath taking awesomeness that pours from these falls as powerfully as the the blue water diving from the ledges above. I left with a few blisters, some funny stories and an even higher appreciation of God’s magnificence that blankets this earth of ours.

  3. Gorgeous. Hopefully someday my lens will get to experience the magic of Havasupia Falls. I see it’s one of the few places left where mail is delivered by mule. Wow, this place must be remote.

  7. umm…ya christopher, those colors be poppin! There’s definite payoff when you spend a couple extra hours in the lightroom…uh I mean darkroom.

Dont dare go again without taking me and letting my lonely 40d in on some of that action!

  8. Chris: Were you there before or after the flood?

  9. I was there a week before the flood.
